The Boys & Girls Clubs of Merced County will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the school break to provide a safe and fun environment for young people over the holidays. They’ll have access to the computer lab and can participate in arts and crafts, games and other recreational activities grounded in social development.
Free passes are available for use during Winter Break. Parents have their choice of Week 1, Dec. 19-23 or Week 2, Dec. 27-30, with the alternate week available for $10. Special holiday activities will be provided for attendees, including participation in Safety Awareness Week when the Merced Fire Department will be on hand to share safety tips with the members.
BGC Merced said to ensure access to all those who need it, the regular price of membership has been reduced. Effective Jan. 1, 2012, membership for the entire academic year will be $20. Members enrolling in January will benefit through May 31, 2012.
The summer program will feature free play and facilitated games and activities, as well as an educational component composed of math, reading and writing. During all sessions, attendees are served nutritious snacks and taught to be responsible members. Summer scholarships are available for the June 1 to Aug. 15 session.
