VFW Post 4327 members visit 101 veterans in local care and retirement homes

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4327 in Merced assembled six teams to visit every veteran living in a care facility or retirement home in the Merced and Atwater areas. They visited 101 veterans in eight facilities. Each veteran was given a lanyard reading “I proudly served,” along with a Christmas card.

Each veteran was thanked for his service, and war stories were swapped. VFW members told the people they visited that if they needed any help, they should contact the post.

Post members John Bain and Joe Vasquez were instrumental in coordinating with the local facilities and organizing the team assignments. Vic Hurlburt, post senior vice commander, called the mission “complete and a job well done.”--Sun-Star staff
