St. Anthony School in Atwater will hold an assembly March 22 to recognize and present awards to the six students who were regional winners in the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom Story Writing Contest.
Thousands of students throughout California entered the contest. The state is divided into four regions, with St. Anthony’s region including Merced, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo and Tulare counties.
There were 18 winners in each region. St. Anthony fielded six winners out of 47 entries. They were Xavier Walle, fourth grade, “The Importance of Oranges”; Grace Reyes, fifth grade, “Honeybee Worker Day”; Marco Sobrevilla, sixth grade, “Grape Bully”; Tucker Kidwiler, seventh grade, “The Mature and Wise Apple Tree”; Camila Fragoza, eighth grade, “The Disappointed Blueberry”; and Juan Walle, eighth grade, “Sam and His Cow, Larry.” Grace Reyes went on to be one of eight state winners.
