Merced police have arrested a man who they say robbed Smiley's Shell gas station twice this month.
Frederick Franklin Brigham, 33, a parolee wanted out of Sacramento, was arrested Saturday night after Officer Ramon Ruiz got word that he was staying at a home in the 1800 block of I Street. Ruiz found Brigham in a bedroom of the home and saw that he matched the description of the suspect in the robberies. After questioning, Brigham admitted robbing the gas station at 1480 W. 16th St., police said. He told officers he took about $300 in the first robbery on March 12, but that he dropped some of the cash while fleeing the store. He didn't get any money in the second robbery, which occurred March 16, because he ran away when he saw the clerk was armed.
During both incidents, he fled to the Siesta Motel across the street, police said.
Brigham was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery.
