Average White Band will perform June 14 at the 2012 Merced County Fair.
Average White Band has been performing sold-out shows around the world for the last 30 years and they’re coming to the fair’s Outdoor Theatre for the first time.
The band’s roots are in Scotland but their current lineup includes two U.S. recruits. The multi-Grammy nominated band’s hits include “Pick Up The Pieces,” “Cut the Cake” and “Let’s Ro Round Again.”
Also performing in the fairgrounds’ Outdoor Theatre are Christian music artists, The Afters, presented by Fresno Pacific University, Opening Day, June 13; Little Texas, will play country music June 15; and Evolution: The Ultimate Tribute to Journey, will play the music of Journey on June 16. The headline act for June 17 will be announced soon.
Each night a headline entertainment act will appear at 8:30 p.m. in the fairgrounds’ Outdoor Theatre, where all concerts are free with admission. The Outdoor Theatre Concert Series is presented by Table Mountain Casino. At the 2012 Merced County Fair, everybody can get in for $5 — a 50 percent discount off the 2011 general admission. The fair will also offer a new five general admission ticket pack valued at $25 for $16 — a 40 percent savings.
Several of The Average White Band’s albums went gold and “Soul Searching” went platinum.
“Pick Up The Pieces” hit No. 1 Pop Single status and No. 5 R&B Single on the Billboard charts and received a Grammy nomination for “Best R&B Instrumental Performance.” “Cut The Cake” was No. 7 on the R&B Billboard Single charts and also was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance.” “Soul Searching” was No. 4 on Billboard’s Dance Single song charts. “A Star In The Ghetto” charted at No. 25 on the R&B Billboard Singles charts and was also Grammy-nominated for “Best R&B Instrumental Performance.”
Average White Band’s music has been played on dozens of TV shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, The Late Show With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live and their songs have been used in many commercials from Budweiser and Crest to Mitsubishi and Revlon.
