It's nearly mid-April, but the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in the Sierra from Yosemite to the Tulare-Kern county line.
The weather service also expects unsettled weather through Friday, with rain and mountain snow, as a storm system moves across Central California. The snow level is expected to drop to between 5,000 and 6,000 feet with up to a foot of snow above 7,000 feet. This morning's rain should change to showers this afternoon, but a second storm is expected to reach the region Thursday afternoon. That storm is expected to be cooler and stronger, and the snow level may drop to as low as 4,000 feet.
Travelers going to Southern California Saturday morning are advised to check road conditions before leaving.
