Merced Multicultural Center to hold '60s and '70s Poetry Potluck Party

A '60s and '70s Poetry Potluck Party is scheduled 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Merced Multicultural Center, 645 W Main St.

Sponsored by UC Merced African Diaspora Student Association, the event will showcase poets from a variety of liberation movements, according to the event’s Facebook listing.

Participants may bring a poem to read, or read works by poets such as Ishmael Reed, Lucha Corpi, Juan Felipe Herrera, Genny Lim, Al Young, Francisco X. Alarcon, Sonia Sanchez, Askia Toure, Nikki Giovanni, Amiri Baraka, Gerald Vizenor, Maxine Hong Kingston, Pablo Neruda and Joy Harjo.

The event is in support of the “Voices of the Black Arts Movement” exhibit, on display at the Merced Multicultural Center until Saturday.
