The Modesto Planning Commission on Monday cleared the way for Save Mart to build a flagship grocery store near Highway 99 and Pelandale Avenue.
Commissioners unanimously created five parcels north of Pelandale, just east of NorthPointe Shopping Center's Lowe's. Save Mart would anchor the center's expansion, with four unidentified smaller stores or restaurants. The grocery store will replace the Save Mart built in 1992 south of Pelandale, less than a quarter-mile away.
Planning commissioners also agreed to extend a deadline for construction to start on 142 homes west of Oakdale Road between Claratina and Mable avenues. Plans for Rose Villas include 11 duplexes affordable to moderate-income buyers.
