A woman was struck by a work truck as she tried to cross a busy West Childs Avenue on foot, according to Merced police.
The woman, who was in her 40s, crossed Childs going northbound near Q Street when she was hit at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Tony Aponte said.
The Merced man driving his truck westbound tried to avoid the woman but hit her with the side of the truck near the side view mirror, Aponte said. Witnesses said the woman "wasn't paying attention" as she crossed, he said.
Her injuries were "serious but not life-threatening," and she was flown to a Modesto-area hospital, Aponte said.
