LIVINGSTON -- Livingston police and sheriff's deputies are investigating two shootings reported Wednesday night in Merced County.
No injuries were reported in a Livingston shooting, but one person was hurt in a Winton shooting. No suspects have been arrested in either case.
Livingston police responded to Eighth and F streets about 9 p.m. after receiving a call of shots fired. A Honda sedan was traveling south on Eighth Street and stopped at the intersection's stop sign, according to Sgt. Ray Fong.
One or more people on foot then fired shots at the car. The car turned east on F Street and sped away. Police weren't able to locate a victim, Fong said. The shooter or shooters ran into a nearby apartment complex.
Few details were available about the victim or the shooters, although police believe the crime is gang-related. The victim is described only as a Latino man.
Police believe the occupants of a second vehicle at the scene, a dark-colored midsized pickup, may have been involved or witnessed the shooting. Fong said police are looking for the truck's driver.
Livingston police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to call (209) 395-7916. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
The second shooting was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Winton Way and Arlene Drive. The victim, a teenage boy, said he was walking on Winton Way when a grey car passed him. He then felt something warm on his left shoulder and saw he was bleeding, according to Merced County sheriff's Deputy Tom Mac-Kenzie.
The victim walked to a nearby market for help. The vehicle, which may have been a Toyota, fled south on Winton Way. The teen was flown to a Modesto hospital and is expected to survive, MacKenzie said.
Merced County sheriff's deputies are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call (209) 385-7472. Calls are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
