A celebration was held Saturday to commemorate the designation of Highway 132 from Coulterville to Highway 120 as the John Muir Highway.

Historians say the highway, which is a major route into Yosemite National Park, follows the path that preservationist John Muir took on an early journey to the park.

The region is chronicled in Muir's book, "My First Summer in the Sierra."
