Mariposa County's sites for recycling used motor oil

Karen Dusek, Mariposa County Recycling Coordinator, listed several places to recycle used motor oil.

There is no charge to recycle oil at these locations. Payment of 10 cents per quart or 40 cents per gallon is offered for all oil accepted at the following oil recycling centers:

The Mariposa County Landfill & Recycling Center, 5593 Hwy. 49N, Mariposa. Open Thur. through Mon., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Tues., Wed., and holidays. Mariposa County residents only. Call (209) 966-5165 for information.

Lake Don Pedro Transfer Station, 9729 Merced Fall Rd., La Grange. Open Thur., Sat. and Sun. from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Mon. through Wed., Fri. and holidays. Mariposa County residents only. Call (209) 852-9692 for information.

Mariposa Yosemite Airport, 5020 Macready Way (Off Hwy. 49N), Mariposa. Open daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through November, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. December through March. Ask for assistance in the lobby. (209) 966-2143.

The following locations also accept clean used oil for recycling at no charge but do not offer payment:

NAPA Auto Parts, 4901 Joe Howard Rd. Mariposa. Open Mon. through Sat., 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sun., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Ask clerk for assistance or call (209) 966-3697 for appointment.

Greeley Hill True Value, 6364 Greeley Hill Rd. Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Call (209) 878-3414 for information.

Motor oil mixed with fluids such as antifreeze, gas or solvents is considered contaminated and cannot be left for recycling. Safely store contaminated oil in a watertight container for disposal at the next Household Hazardous Waste Event.
