A girl was killed when the van she was riding in at Yosemite National Park was involved in an accident on the Tioga Road on Tuesday morning.

The girl's family has been notified, but her identity isn't being released by the park because she is a minor, according to Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman.

Marinscope Community Newspapers is reporting that Alena Dennison, 17, was killed when the van she was riding in veered off the roadway and crashed around 7:15 a.m. Details about the crash weren't available, but the investigation is ongoing. Dennison was a sophomore at Marin Academy in San Rafael. Seven passengers were in the van, and one other teenager was taken to a hospital in Modesto for medical treatment.
