The victim of Saturday morning's homicide in Los Banos was identified as a 34-year-old Los Banos resident who was recently released from prison, authorities said.

The Merced County Coroner's Office confirmed that the victim, identified as 34-year-old Scotty Ray Moore, was shot to death Saturday morning.

Moore was found by first responders at 5:29 a.m. in the 500 block of Elmwood Drive, according to Los Banos Police.

Emergency personnel attempted to revive Moore with CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Los Banos Police Sgt. Justin Melden said there are "some undertones of gang involvement," but the motive behind the slaying remained unclear Saturday night.

No arrests have been made. Melden said investigators have "strong leads."

Moore has a criminal history that includes drug and weapons charges.

In April 2017, Moore was arrested for possessing a shotgun and ammunition after he admitted to being a gang member, according to Merced Police.

Merced Superior Court records indicate that Moore was sentenced in July 2017 to 16 months in prison, with about three months time served, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Melden said police believe Moore was recently released from prison. Moore's exact prison release date was not immediately known.
