Two injured in South Merced robbery, police say

Two men were attacked by robbers after midnight Wednesday in South Merced, suffering moderate injuries, police reported.

The victims, ages 22 and 27, reported they were walking near 11th and T streets when more than two assailants walked up and started hitting the pair with their fists. The victims are cousins, Merced police said.

The robbers knocked the victims to the ground and kicked them. The 22-year-old managed to flee and call police. The other victim was robbed of his cell phone and wallet.

Police arrived and found the 22-year-old victim in the 1000 block of W Street, bleeding from his face.

The 27-year-old was found 1200 block of 12th Place. He received injuries to his head and was beaten unconscious. Police recovered his wallet and jewelry in the 1200 Block of T Street.

The victims' wounds were't life-threatening. Police said details are sketchy about the suspects. The victims reported the attackers were black male adults.
