UC Merced named one of top colleges based on value in the country by Money
UC Merced was ranked No. 76 in Money magazine’s latest “Best Colleges” list. The list included over 700 universities that qualified for the evaluation.
It’s UC Merced’s first appearance on the annual list, which is compiled by Money based off of value. Money looked for schools that combine quality and affordability based off of many criteria, including tuition fees, money borrowed and career earnings.
There were 739 schools on the list.
Money’s report shows that 90% of UC Merced students receive some sort of grant money, which brings the cost of tuition down in 2020-21 from $36,700 annually without aid to to an estimated price of $12,900 with financial aid. The average student debt is $19,000 with the average early income at $54,300, according to Money.
Money’s report on UC Merced states: “Research is a priority and touches on everything from renewable energy to artificial intelligence. Despite its young age, UC Merced already has something for everyone.”
UC Merced also made Monday’s list of Most Transformative Colleges, which is based on students beating the odds by doing better than would be expected from their academic and economic backgrounds. UC Merced was ranked No. 12 on the list, which was the highest rank of any University of California campus.
“UC Merced, absolutely, is changing lives and is a model of the transformative power of higher education,” said Chancellor Juan Sanchez Muñoz in a press release. “Our university is conducting world-changing research, creating justly celebrated advances in social mobility for our students and advancing the economic and cultural progress of the Central Valley and California.”
