A week ago, Northern California's top girls water polo teams were splashing and shooting in local pools, competing in the Western States High School Championships.
It's the boys' turn this week, with 40 teams battling in the DeLong Memorial Tournament, which begins Friday.
The two-day tournament features 24 teams in the A bracket and 16 in the B bracket, with matches played at Johansen, Pitman and Lincoln of Stockton.
Six Stanislaus District teams are in the A bracket: Johansen, Modesto, Turlock, Golden Valley, Sonora and Buhach Colony.

SZABO'S STUNNER -- Turlock's Emily Szabo provided a stunner Monday at the Central California Conference golf tournament.
Szabo fired a 6-over 78 at Pheasant Run Golf Course in Chowchilla to beat the 80 shot by defending conference champion Belen Hernandez of Golden Valley.
Szabo's performance, and an 80 shot by teammate Spencer Heller, led the regular-season champion Bulldogs to the tournament title as well.
Turlock, Pitman and Golden Valley will play Monday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South Tournament at Creekside in Modesto.
EU TRIES TO REPEAT -- East Union, meanwhile will be heading north to Diamond Oaks Golf Course in Roseville to defend its Division IV title.
On Monday, the Lancers won the Valley Oak League tournament by 77 strokes over crosstown rival Sierra, though the Timberwolves' Julie Shutler was the medalist and league MVP after shooting a 4-over 76 at Brookside Golf and Country Club in Stockton.
VOLLEYBALL RATINGS -- The section has released its initial volleyball ratings, giving teams an indication of where they sit with the playoffs scheduled to begin Nov. 6. Each of the five divisions will have 16-team brackets.
The district's highest-rated team is Stone Ridge Christian, No. 3 in Division V. Two teams are ranked No. 4: Sonora in Division III and Ripon in Division IV. Hilmar is No. 5 in Division IV. See the Scoreboard, Page C-5, for the complete list.
