Boys Basketball Preview: The High Five

It's been a while since last season ended, so here are five memorable moments from a year ago:

1. Modesto Christian makes it to the Northern California Division IV championship game, losing 82-70 to St. Mary's of Berkeley and setting a record for most combined points in the final.

2. Downey and Merced get to the Division I quarterfinals, where a lack of depth brings the season to an end for both teams.

3. Modesto Christian's Reeves Nelson (above)sets a section playoff-record with 53 points in a frenzied 122-100 semifinal victory over Encina.

4. Turlock sets itself up for the next two years, starting 6-4 sophomores Travis Souza and Eric Wetzel and finishing second to Merced in the Central California Conference.

5. A fine collection of senior talent exits as nine of the 10 players on The Bee's all-Stanislaus District team graduate.
