High-flying, Southern California studs heading to Division I colleges or Stanislaus District standouts who lack star power but possess talent and focus on fundamentals?
If you're a high school basketball fan, it's a decision you look forward to making during the holiday season.
There are a bundle of SoCal stars in tonight's semifinals of the Modesto Christian tourney -- three of the four teams are from down south -- while local talent will be running the courts from Columbia College to Ceres High.
Today's highlights include:
Chase Tapley leads Sacramento, the state D-III runner-up last season, against Taft of Woodland Hills in the featured 7 p.m. semifinal at MC.
Enochs and 6-foot-8-inch Marcus Bell battle Modesto Metro Conference rival Davis in a 6:30 p.m. semifinal at Oakdale. Davis isn't tall, but will try to outmuscle Bell near the hoop.
Allen Huddleston, with 50 and 32 points in his last two games, and Merced face Turlock in an all-District battle tipping off at 10 a.m. at MC.
Golden Valley takes its run-and-gun style on the road to play Christian Williams and defensive-minded Sierra at 4 p.m. at Columbia College.
Ever-improving Modesto Christian, with UCLA-bound Reeves Nelson and new arrival Liautaud Prophete, meet San Leandro at 5:30 p.m. The Crusaders were the only District team to win its tournament opener and could finish as high as fifth.
Brooke Silva, one of the region's top scorers, and Los Banos face East Union and defensive ace Rachel McDaniel at 6 p.m. at West High of Tracy.
Central Valley and acrobatic Deangelo Williams, one of the region's top juniors, face Yosemite of Oakhurst in a 6 p.m. game at Ceres High.
