THE GAME: No. 2 Modesto Christian (25-7) vs. No. 6 Marin Catholic (25-6).
AT STAKE: A spot in Saturday's 5 p.m. final at Folsom High against the winner of Linden-St. Mary's.
HOW THEY GOT HERE: Modesto Christian won the section title, then dispatched of Central Valley-Lake Shasta 75-48 on Tuesday. Point guard Brandi Henton scored 19 and shooting guard Stefani Agostini added 18 in the win. Marin Catholic was trounced 64-36 by St. Mary's in the North Coast Section final, but bounced back for a 57-31 won at Santa Cruz in Tuesday's NorCal opener. Senior guard Leigh Stewart scored 18 and senior center Melissa Wise added 14.
THE GAME: No. 2 Modesto Christian (23-8) vs. No. 6. St. Mary's-Berkeley (27-5).
AT STAKE: A spot in Saturday's 7 p.m. final at Folsom High against the winner of Salesian-Sutter.
HOW THEY GOT HERE: Modesto Christian won its unprecedented 10th consecutive section title, then sailed over Corning 81-44 on Tuesday. Balance again was the key for the Crusaders, who put nine players in the scoring column, getting 27 points from Johnny Hutton, 14 from Reeves Nelson and 10 from Isaiah Burse. St. Mary's, which defeated MC in last year's NorCal final, lost to Salesian 63-55 in the North Coast Section final, then trailed at halftime Tuesday before pulling away to a 60-45 victory at Menlo of Atherton. St. Mary's is led by 6-foot-4-inch senior guard Chris Drew, who will be playing next season at UC-Santa Barbara.
