Modesto police say homicide victim was man in his 30s

Modesto police say a man in his 30s was found mortally wounded this morning at a home on the city's northwest side.

Emergency workers tried to save the man's life at the scene. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police Sgt. Brian Findlen said.

The man was found inside a home in the 2000 block of Zeeland Court, south of Snyder Avenue and east of Prescott Road. The shooting was reported to police about 6:15 a.m.

Officers found several people gathered at the home, Findlen said. Homicide detectives are conducting interviews with them and following up on leads, he said.

Findlen said police did not know if the man who was killed lived at the house. He said it was too soon to characterize what happened and why.

"There (are) many things we just don't know," Findlen said.

No one had been arrested as of late morning, nor had the victim's name been released. Findlen said this evening that investigators were still trying to locate the man's relatives.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call them at (209) 572-9500 or Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637. Just type “TIP704” along with your message.
