The police investigation into an officer-involved shooting, during which a man carrying a sword was killed, has been completed and turned over to the Stanislaus County district attorney's office, authorities said Monday.
Officer Latisha Leap shot Richard Robles Jr. about 5 a.m. on Jan. 11 in downtown Modesto. He died at an area hospital about an hour later. Robles had been acting "bizarre and unusual" outside the DoubleTree Hotel on K Street near Ninth Street, according to a Modesto Fire Department official.
Robles had a history of violent confrontations with authorities, according to public records collected by The Bee. Mike Harden, assistant chief of the Modesto Police Department, said Monday that the investigation into the shooting was complete and had been delivered to the district attorney's office for review and ruling.
Harden said the review could take several weeks. No one from the district attorney's office was available for comment Monday evening.
