Man robs Modesto store

A Modesto baked goods store was robbed at gunpoint Sunday afternoon, police said.

The suspected robber walked into the Oroweat-Entenmann's store at 3025 McHenry Ave. about 1:15 p.m., said Modesto police Sgt. Craig Plante. The suspect pulled a small silver revolver from his pants pocket, then ordered an employee and customers to one area of the store, Plante said. The suspect ordered a clerk to the cash register, then told the clerk to empty the register and hand over the money.

The three customers in the store were ordered to remove jewelry and give it to the suspect. One customer, a young woman, gave the suspected robber her wedding band, Plante said.

The suspected robber then told the clerk and customers to get on the ground and count to 30. After the customers and clerk were done counting they called 911, Plante said.

Video footage showed the suspect leaving on foot.

Witnesses described him as a white male, about 35, with a stocky build. He wore a black mask that covered part of his face.
