Modesto firefighters responded to a 2-acre grass fire Sunday along the Tuolumne River across from John Thurman Field. Four engines, one water tender and a battalion chief responded to the blaze, which was reported about 5:50 p.m., said Battalion Chief Sean Slamon.
It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. With many dry branches and tree stumps in the area, firefighters stayed on the scene for about 2½ hours after the fire was put out to make sure no new fires started, Slamon said.
No property damage or injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
