A 34-year-old man drowned in the Stanislaus River near Strawberry on Sunday, according to the Tuolumne County sheriff’s office.
Scott L. Hernandez, reportedly from Santa Clara, was in a small blow-up raft in the South Fork of the river when the raft overturned, said Sgt. Ken Diaz, public information officer with the sheriff’s office. Hernandez was taken by the current and swept downstream.
The sheriff’s office’s search and rescue team responded, and the Hernandez was found dead in the river shortly after.
Hernandez had been staying at his family’s cabin in Cold Springs for the weekend, according to Diaz.Foul place is not suspected. Diaz said an autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of death.
