The swift-moving Merced River is hampering divers searching for a German woman last seen below the Vernal Fall footbridge.
Thirty-one-year-old Katrin Lehman was visiting the park from San Diego when she disappeared at 3:30 p.m. Monday. She apparently fell into the river, which a park emergency services worker described as swift and "coming up pretty high" because warm temperatures are melting Sierra Nevada snow.
Lehman is 6 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds. She was wearing a maroon jacket and hiking boots, and carried a light blue backpack. Park officials say divers couldn't get into the water Monday because of the swift conditions.
Park rangers and law enforcement were searching downstream Tuesday.
