Pay half-price for new books at library sale

If you have a young book lover, are a teacher, or both, an upcoming event at the Modesto branch of the Stanislaus County Library just might offer bargains you won't want to miss.

New books from Scholastic and other publishers will be on sale at half price during the Friends of the Modesto Library's Community Book Sale from Thursday through Saturday. The nonprofit organization promises to have thousands of new books for children and teens on sale in the library's auditorium at the reduced rate.

You can stock up on books for your children or grandchildren, maybe even get a jump on Christmas gift shopping, by dropping in on the sale Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also on the bargain-hunting radar this week is a great deal on a summer treat.

Baskin-Robbins shops offer $1 scoops of ice cream on Tuesdays. You can pick any one of the many flavors in the freezers to enjoy on one of the valley's infamous hot evenings from 6 to 10.

Affordable and yummy, what a great combination.
