A Calaveras County sheriff's detective was shot in the shoulder Wednesday afternoon in an incident involving a stolen vehicle, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and the detective was taken to Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas.
Detectives shot a suspect multiple times. He was taken by air ambulance to a Modesto hospital, according to the release. His condition was not available Wednesday evening.
The name of the wounded detective and suspect were not released.

The shooting occurred about 3:40 p.m. west of the town of Railroad Flat when a stolen vehicle that detectives had been following stopped. Shots were fired, the detective was hit, and detectives returned fire, hitting the suspect, according to the release.
