Storms knock out power in Fresno County

FRESNO - Nearly 1,500 PG&E customers in Fresno County remain without power after Thursday night’s thunderstorms and lightning strikes rolled through the Valley.

Power for the residential and commercial customers should be restored by this afternoon, said Jeff Smith, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman. About 1,000 of the affected customers are in the Centerville area, he said. The rest are scattered throughout the county.

About 27,000 Fresno County customers lost power, most of them because of lightning strikes, Smith said. Most of the outages happened between 10 p.m. and midnight. Outages in the Centerville area happened shortly after 4 a.m.
