Eager to build the West Side's first in-ground skate park, Patterson leaders Tuesday will consider setting aside seed money in hopes of attracting grants.
The cash-strapped city needs about $635,000 to build the skate park at Las Palmas and Ward avenues and has failed at previous grant requests.
Sinking $250,000 from development fees collected for a new community center could show grantors the city is making an effort, leaders say, and help increase the possibility of a big grant.
Also Tuesday, council members are expected to adopt a bleak preliminary city budget of $52.4 million for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
