Car set on fire in Ceres

CERES - Three men set a car on fire early Sunday morning, destroying it and damaging the front of a business that also caught fire, according to Michael Lillie, battalion chief with the Ceres Fire Department.

The men parked a 1995 Honda Civic, which was reported stolen, in front of Zapien Electric Co. in the 1000 block of Partee Lane just southeast of Crows Landing and East Service roads.

They got out of the car and set it on fire.

Firefighters were called at 6:30 a.m. A surveillance camera caught the incident tape, and police and fire investigators are reviewing it.

Lillie said the video shows that the car was set on fire from the passenger side. Matches were found on the scene, and the car was destroyed.

Lillie estimated the fire damage to the front of the store at $2,500.
