Officers arrested a man suspected of vandalizing a wall with spray paint early Thursday in northwest Modesto after a resident witnessed the tagging and notified police, a department spokesman said.
Modesto police Sgt. Brian Findlen said Tyler Siemens, 24, of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. behind homes on the north side of the 2000 block of Mendocino Way, just south of Standiford Avenue and east of Prescott Road.
Findlen said the resident saw a shadow of a person spray-painting a wall behind the homes and called police. He said officers arrived within minutes and spotted Siemens spray-painting a large letter on the wall.

Siemens ran, but officers caught him as he tried to jump a fence. Findlen said the officers returned to the wall and found the sprayer had just started his tagging with a yellow and white "S" about 5 feet tall.
The vandalism did not appear to be gang-related. Findlen said this sort of vandalism by taggers is "done for their own notoriety for what they believe is artwork."
