A Hayward teenager was arrested after an hour-long search in Modesto today after he was spotted driving recklessly in what turned out to be a stolen car, according to the Modesto Police Department.
An officer spotted Javier Cabrera Huitron, 18, in a brown Honda Accord doing donuts in the intersection of California and Madison avenues, according to Modesto police Sgt. Brian Findlen.
As officers approached, Huitron drove off. Officers then spotted a cloud of dust in a nearby alley, and when they got there, they saw the abandoned Accord, which apparently had collided with another car.
The occupant of that car suffered minor injuries, Findlen said. Huitron apparently ran away.
Police received a tip from a resident that pointed them toward a nearby duplex, believed to be tied a relative of Huitron’s, in the 200 block of Ruberto Street. Huitron was found there, and arrested along with a 17-year-old girl.
Huitron was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run causing injury; all felonies. The girl was arrested on suspicion of harboring a known fugitive, a felony.
The Accord had been reported stolen in Hayward earlier in the day.
