Stanislaus County dive team pulls body from aqueduct

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s dive team pulled a body from the California Aqueduct this afternoon.

Investigators were trying to determine whether the body is connected to a possible missing person report from Monday afternoon.

According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Gina Leguria, someone reported finding a fishing pole, with the line in the water, and disturbed algae along the bank about 5 p.m. Monday.

Deputies drove along the area, but couldn’t find anything. Today, someone spotted a body.

The dive team went out to the canal and recovered the body about 3:40 p.m. Leguria said investigators had not yet determined whether it was a man or a woman.

“We’re just waiting to hear on I.D. and if the two are connected,” she said.
