Two people are in stable condition with moderate injuries after the pickup truck they were driving this morning hit a traffic light, careened through a fence and down an embankment before coming to rest on a Highway 99 on-ramp in Modesto.
The male driver got out of the car, and a female had to be extricated from the wreckage, according to Modesto Police Sgt. Kelly Scott.
The accident, which occurred about 8:30 a.m., shut down the G Street on-ramp heading southbound on the highway. The traffic signal on the northwest corner of G Street was knocked down, exposing electrical wires.
Scott said the two were driving eastbound on G street when for some unknown reason, the driver lost control of the pickup. After hitting the traffic signal, the pickup continued through the fence that borders Fifth Street and rolled at least once down the embankment.
