A welcome breeze floated through downtown streets Saturday, cooling off artists selling their work, adults tasting wine and children making crafts at the fifth annual Modesto Art & Wine Festival. Organizers said they were happy to see a strong turnout, with 20 vendors offering wines in the parking garage on 11th street. Parents could stop in for wine, then take it to sit with their children while they painted with stamps cut from potatoes or made "splatter art." Musicians at 11th and J streets played as people wandered among booths that offered items ranging from stoneware to cellular phone service. Restaurants along the closed-off area also took part, and many were crowded with customers.
