Crossroads Grace Community Church in Manteca canceled its regular worship services Sunday and sent its members out into Manteca and Modesto to do projects for the community.
In Modesto, church members cleaned abandoned lots at a mobile home park and the Tuolumne River where it flows underneath Highway 99.
The Manteca projects included working at Second Harvest Food Bank, planting trees along the Tidewater Bike Trail and visiting the elderly.
The church has about 1,100 adults who worship Sunday mornings. About 1,000 of them signed up for this day of service, called "Takin' it to the Streets."
