The public can comment tonight on the proposed Two Gates project, which aims to protect fish from water diversions in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
The project involves a pair of removable gates at the Old River and Connection Slough to keep smelt away from heavy pumping in the central delta.
Backers say the gates could lead to relaxation of the irrigation cutbacks faced by growers in parts of the western and southern San Joaquin Valley.
Tonight's meeting is at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 33 W. Alpine Ave., Stockton, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It will deal with a draft report on the environmental effects of the project.
