Modesto High senior Kaitlyn Klein, who led the Panthers to their third consecutive Modesto Metro Conference championship this season, was named Most Valuable Player of the MMC in a recent vote of league coaches.
Klein became the first Modesto High volleyball player to get a scholarship to an NCAA Division I school when she signed on to play for Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. She led a Panther team that went undefeated (15-0) in the MMC for the third straight year and was 31-6 after beating Vintage of Napa on Tuesday night in the opening round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs.
Beyer junior Alyssa Ezerski was named all-MMC first-team libero and joined on the squad by Patriots teammates and fellow juniors Kellie Miller and Emily Pacheco. Also named to the first team were Modesto seniors Alexa Garrett and Gianna Gallo; sophomore Stephanie Christ of Davis; and Enochs junior Sadie Gonzalez.
All-MMC second-team members included: senior Brittany Cohea (libero) and junior Megan Breshears of Enochs; senior Michelle Couchman and sophomore Genna Garrett of Modesto; Downey senior Sarah Mucha; senior Ashleigh Robinson of Johansen; and Beyer senior Haley Hampton.
Receiving all-MMC honorable mention recognition were: Modesto senior Samantha Flores; Beyer junior Yasmina Rousan; Enochs senior Renee Matosich; Johansen senior Alexandra Cariker; Davis senior Chelsi Foreman; and senior Victoria Mullin of Downey.
MARIPOSA'S FOLEY MVP OF SL — Morgan Foley, who helped Mariposa capture the Southern League title, was named the league's MVP. Named all-SL were: Le Grand's Megan Thiel, Samantha Valladao, Megan Tilton and Veronica Moreno; Mariposa's Patricia Schellentrager, Martha Bertrand and Emily Darcy; Joahnna Muller, Candice Balswick and Aubrey Larsson of Turlock Christian; Denair's Wendy Makin; and Brenna Moran of Waterford.
