Suspect arrested in connection with downtown Modesto burglary

Modesto police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a burglary involving a downtown law office over the weekend.

Jason B. Edwards was booked at Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and probation violation charges.

Sgt. Brian Findlen said officers stopped Edwards early Sunday morning, carrying various documents and pieces of mail.

But no burglary had been reported, so they did not arrest him. Monday morning, the business owner reported that a window had been smashed on the 1400 block of I Street downtown.

Officers searched for Edwards at a building on the 1500 block of H street Monday morning before finding him at a home on the 400 block of J Street later. He was arrested and booked at the jail.

Detectives are following up to determine whether he might be responsible for any other burglaries, Findlen said.
