Amid the joy of the holidays, it was a time of quiet reflection Wednesday night as friends and loved ones of homicide victims took time to remember them.
The 12th annual lighting of the Homicide Victims' Memorial Tree and candlelight vigil drew a crowd outside the Stanislaus County Courthouse along I Street in downtown Modesto despite the bitter cold.
Huddled together with candles in hand, people listened intently as the name of each homicide victim was read aloud.
