Shot at state crown is next

The season isn't over for Modesto Christian, which is headed to a state bowl after Friday's 61-40 pounding of Placer -- a school with four times the enrollment of MC -- in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 final.

The Crusaders know they're heading to Carson, but they won't know until Sunday afternoon who they'll play or what bowl they will play in.

MC has been Northern California's top-ranked small school since before the season, according to CalHiSports.com. The Crusaders (14-0) would appear to be a shoo-in for the Small School Bowl, but the 10 section commissioners could promote them to the D3 Bowl if NorCal does not have a quality team for that slot.

"We don't care what game we play in next week," quarterback Isaiah Burse. "We're going to keep playing until they tell us we have to stop."
