More than 200 nominations are received each year, Crosby said. Twelve to 14 awards are given for outstanding community service, based on contributions and character. This is the first year an honored athlete and coach are from the same school, he added.
Christ Unity Baptist Church is at 1320 L St., Modesto. The awards ceremony will start at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a dinner reception. The event is free. For more information, call 496-3574.
