Detectives on Friday night were looking for a suspect in the Thursday night shooting of a 17-year-old boy who was critically injured in northwest Modesto.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, said Sgt. Rick Armendariz, a Modesto police spokesman. The boy's name was not released to ensure his safety.
Armendariz said the department was asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect or suspects.
The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found the boy lying in the street in the 1800 block of Bonanza Way, just west of Carver Road and north of Mount Vernon Drive.
Armendariz said detectives were in the preliminary stages of their investigation and following up on possible leads.
Police did not release other details about the shooting or the investigation.
