Armed robbers on Friday entered a Modesto check-cashing business for the fourth time in three months. This time, the robbers stole cash and other items from customers instead of the business.
The latest robbery occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at Check n' Go in the 1700 block of Oakdale Road, just north of East Briggsmore Avenue.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
The suspects in all four robberies have similar descriptions, and detectives are looking into the possibility the robberies are related, said Sgt. Brian Findlen, a Modesto police spokesman.
On Friday, three robbers entered the check-cashing business, each armed with a handgun.
Police described them as black men in their 20s: one suspect was about 6 feet tall and 210 pounds; the second suspect was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 230 pounds; and the third suspect was about 6 feet 1 inch tall and about 190 pounds.
Findlen said it appeared the suspects had an intent to rob the business, but instead demanded cash and other items from six customers.
The robbers left the business with the cash and the items. No vehicle was seen leaving. Officers checked the area but did not find the suspects.
The three similar armed robberies occurred in November and December.
The first robbery took place shortly before 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at Advance America, 2101 Standiford Ave., just west of Prescott Road in north Modesto.
The second robbery occurred about 5:15 p.m. Nov. 23 at Fast Auto and Payday Loans, 601 Scenic Drive, between Bodem and Melrose streets in central Modesto.
The suspects in those robberies were described as black males armed with a gun.
The third robbery occurred about 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Check n' Go at 2225 Plaza Parkway in northwest Modesto. Two robbers armed with a gun left the business with an unknown amount of cash.
Witnesses described the robbers as black men in their early 20s. One was wearing a black leather jacket, and the other used a hooded sweat shirt to cover his head and face.
