Modesto police have arrested the last suspect in the slaying of a 17-year-old rival gang member. Miguel Angel Gutierrez, 18, of Modesto was booked Friday night on suspicion of being an accessory to murder and gang enhancement charges, according to a Sunday news release. Gutierrez also was placed on an immigration hold. Marcos Christian Alvarez of Modesto was shot about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 21. Officers found him lying in the street in the 1800 block of Bonanza Way, just west of Carver Road and north of Mount Vernon Drive. Alvarez died at a hospital two days later. He was the first homicide of the year. Police arrested three suspects, all teenagers, in the slaying last week.
