Law enforcement officials are inviting the public to join them in April for the Pride Run, a 10K run to honor the memory of fallen law enforcement officers and military service members.
The event, started in 2008 by Turlock police Sgt. Miguel Pacheco, will take place April 17 in Ripon, said Stanislaus County sheriff's Lt. Jim Gordon.
This year, the run is dedicated to Ripon police officer Bob Winget and Army Spc. Tony Jerold Gonzales.
Winget died April 2007 in an ATV accident while patrolling along the Stanislaus River.
In December 2008, Gonzales was in an Army Humvee when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Sadr City, Iraq, killing him.
Organizers of the 10K run have teamed with The Simon Family Foundation to conduct fund-raising activities at the event to support scholarships in honor of Winget and Gonzales, according to a news release.
