Turlock Police and school officials are working together to improve traffic safety at the city's schools.
Superintendent Sonny Da Marto and Turlock Police Chief Gary Hampton produced a safety message transmitted by phone to residents, including on Super Bowl Sunday.
Police also have made use of message trailers at school sites, and volunteers to provide guidance to parents dropping off or picking up children. Volunteers take video of the most egregious safety violations.
And officials said uniformed patrol officers have increased patrols of local schools during high-traffic periods.
"We have already seen the benefits of this partnership," he said.
The district and police implemented a drop-off and pick-up zone in front of Turlock High School, which alleviates the longtime problem of parents allowing children to get out of their cars while stopped in traffic lanes at intersections, he said.
