A town hall meeting exploring water options at Riverdale Park Tract will take place tonight.
State water officials blame nearby Bonzi Sanitary Landfill for a plume of groundwater pollution slowly moving toward a well that is the neighborhood's only source of tap water.
Contaminants were detected recently. Experts are scheduled to explain how toxins can affect health and whether the water is safe for drinking, bathing and cooking. A Modesto official is expected to discuss costs to hook up to the city's water system. People also can question Riverdale water board members.
The forum is sponsored by Clean Water, a national organization advocating for water purity, and will be moderated by Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueño, who is affiliated with the group.
Thursday's meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall on the neighborhood's west edge, 2801 W. Hatch Road.
