Imagine this: You just stole some stuff from a car. Someone saw you, and the police tracked you to your house. So what do you do? Call 911 and report a more serious crime, across town.
That's what Turlock police said happened early Thursday, but they didn't fall for it.
According to a police report, a witness interrupted an auto burglary at 4:40 a.m. in the 3600 block of La Mancha Place. Responding officers spotted a suspect car; three people ran away.
Police traced them to an address on Fosberg Road, but nobody would answer the door. Someone inside the house called 911 to report a stabbing at Geer Road and Golden State Boulevard, but officers didn't take the bait.
They entered and found several people hiding inside, as well as property from a number of burglaries. The investigation is continuing; police didn't report any arrests.
